Arnicle House is set in the middle of a working hill sheep farm overlooking the riding arena, and has pleasing views of the surrounding hills and glen.

Arnicle House is a good central base if you wish to island hop, Gigha, Islay, Jura, and Arran, are all within easy reach. See the beautiful gardens on Gigha, golf at Machrihanish, Southend or Tarbert, or even go hill walking, bird watching, and fishing in the hill lochs that surround the farm.

Owner's Description

The house itself was built in the early 20th century and has recently been refurbished in keeping with the original design of the house, the lovely wooden floors, doors and panelling have been retained along with the open fires in every room, the rooms are all spacious and comfortably decorated.

The accommodation comprises:

* one large en-suite double room
* one single room

Things You Need To Know

Arnicle Farm, a working sheep unit situated at the head of Barr Glen offers visitors the chance to view first hand the workings of a west Highland stock farm. See shearing, lambing, working sheep dogs etc and enjoy the many and varied walks around the farm. Birds, animals and plant life are everywhere and for the enthusiast some of the less well known species can be found. There is also a trout loch ten minutes from the end of a forest road where fishing can be had by arrangement.
For those with historical interests the area is dotted with cup and ring marked stones, circle dwellings and duns from ancient times. From more recent farming times there are numerous limekilns, some of which are quite well preserved. Most of these are marked on ordinance survey map of the area and with the help of some local knowledge can be found fairly easily
Kintyre enjoys a host of varying activities from the equestrian centre here at Arnicle to golfing, walking, ramblings, surfing, swimming, relaxing amongst many other things. Here is a small sample of some things you could do while you enjoy your stay with us!

Directions

Arnicle Farm, the home of Barrglen Equitation Centre and Arnicle House B&B, can be found approximately two and a half hours drive from Glasgow Airport following the A82 to Tarbet. From there, the A83 through Inverary, lochgilphead to Tarbert which is 24 miles from Glenbarr Village where you take the first turn towards the village, then immediate left again onto the single track tarred Barr Glen road for 3miles, arriving at Arnicle Farm at the end of the road and across the bridge.
