The Allerdale Court Hotel
Cockermouth, Cumbria, England
"Family owned & run, we pride ourselves on warm hospitality, good food and the constant attention to detail that are the hallmarks of The Allerdale Court's friendly and dedicated staff."
Things You'll Love
A traditional Lakeland welcome awaits you and open fire and original oak beams help to create a relaxing atmosphere. Along with the most familiar pursuits of guests to a town situated in the English Lakes, such as fell-walking, sailing or just enjoying the breathtaking scenery, the hotel is close to the "Lorton Valley", one of the most spectacular but little known of the areas to visit.
Fishing is available on the river Derwent, one of the best Salmon rivers in England, which is only a hundred yards from the hotel and is an ideal location for an evening stroll.
The west coast of Cumbria is a few miles from Cockermouth, well worth exploring from Silloth in the north to Muncaster Castle in the south. The hotel is also a favourite for golfers, being close to five good courses, special breaks can be arranged for groups of golfers.
Location
The Hotel is situated in the old Market Place of Cockermouth, the town regarded by many as the true gateway to the Lake District and the birthplace of William Wordsworth (whose family home is open to the public). The Hotel is a listed building of some architectural interest. Dating back to the 17th Century, the most famous mutineer in history, Fletcher Christian, after seeing his crewmates slain by Tahitian natives was said to have escaped on a ship with one Captain Folger and returned to Cockermouth. Rumour has it that he returned to the house that is now The Allerdale Court Hotel.
Owner's Description
We have 21 en-suite bedrooms (most with colour T.V., radio, telephone, modem point, iron and hospitality tray). Dining at The Allerdale Court is an important part of any guest's stay and it is not by chance that both of our two restaurants have earned fine reputations both locally and nationally. Both restaurants offer superb freshly cooked food, and plenty of it, served with smiling experience to your table.
The Pickwick is a traditional silver served restaurant while Oscars, a Latin themed restaurant, is a busy, fashionable night time venue with plenty of grills, steaks, fish and specialities.
To complement both restaurants, our bar offers the full range of wines, ales andspirits that you would expect to find in a Lakeland hostelry.
