Owner's Description

Ivy Bank is a pretty Victorian house built in the 1890's from local slate and provides comfortable accommodation in a family home. Although situated on a small road away from main thoroughfares it is only a few minutes walk from the village centre, railway station, restaurants, shops and pubs.

Many of its original features have been retained, such as the elegant pitch pine staircase, exposed beams and ornate cornices.

If you need to check your email or access the internet we have wireless internet access throughout the house. There is a first floor lounge for our guests use with plenty of Tourist Information, sample menus from local restaurants and a good choice of reading material. For younger visitors there is a selection of toys and games.

The choice for breakfast is more than most people could want but then that means you don't need to worry too much about lunch. If you're not a big eater that's okay, you can just have whatever you like from the menu.

We have a car park at the rear of the property and there are no parking restrictions on Holly Road. If you have bikes ( pedal or motor ) we can provide safe storage for them.

We have 5 letting bedrooms, all are en-suite. Rooms 1,3,4, & 5 have showers and room 2 has a bath and shower.

All bedrooms are provided with colour TV, hair dryer, alarm clock/radio, corkscrew, tea/coffee/hot chocolate making facilities and a range of toiletries.
Room 3 also has a VCR. Room 1 and room 2 are larger rooms and have more luxurious furnishings, comfy sofa and a DVD player, ideal for those special occasions or just for a treat. You can bring your own DVDs or you can borrow one of ours.

The most interesting route is to leave the motorway at junction 40 near Penrith and take the A66 towards Keswick. At the next roundabout follow the signs for the A592 which you stay on for about 40 minutes. (If you see the sign for Aira Force on the right and you have time, there is a beautiful walk up to the waterfall). After coming down the Troutbeck Valley you reach the A591 at a small roundabout. Turn left here. After about half a mile take a right turn in front of the 'Rockside' guest house, this takes you into the village centre. You come on to the one-way system and once you have passed over a pedestrian crossing with lights, take the first turning left into Broad Street. Go to the end of Broad Street and turn right into Woodland Road. Then take the first right into Holly Road. Ivy Bank is the 4th house on the left.

Directions from the south.

Leave the M6 at junction 36, turn left and follow the A591 to Windermere - this takes about 25 minutes. When you reach the village turn left in front of the National Westminster Bank. Follow the one-way system downhill and cross over a pedestrian crossing with lights. After the pedestrian crossing take the first turning left into Broad Street. Go to the end of Broad Street and turn right into Woodland Road. Then take the first right into Holly Road. Ivy Bank is the 4th house on the left.

Directions from the station

When you get off the train at Windermere you can take a taxi (it costs about £2.50) or if you prefer to walk (10 minutes), come out from the station and go left past Booths supermarket. You then go on past the Tourist Information Centre (you may wish to look in here). Continue downhill from the TIC following the one-way traffic. Turn left at the 'Queens' pub and follow the one-way traffic along Crescent Road past the Co-op Welcome supermarket. Take the first left turn after the Co-op into Broad Street.
