With Snowdonia to the North and the Cader Idris just across the Mawddach estuary to the South the area is second to none for it's natural beauty and is very popular with walkers and ramblers alike, and among the many other attractions within easy reach of Barmouth are off road cycling, pony trekking, clay shooting, dry slope skiing, steam railways, historic castles, golfing, rock climbing and abseiling as well as the more traditional attractions.

Under New Management, Tyr Graig Castle is an enchanting Victorian castle-hotel perched atop a cliff between the mountains and the sea. It has an enviable position offering a wonderful sea view of Cardigan Bay and on a clear day a distant view of Ireland . Only just over 1/2 a mile out of Barmouth town centre and on the borders of the Snowdonia National Park the hotel offers a fantastic base for anyone wishing to explore the surrounding areas.

The castle was originally built in 1891 for WW Greener the famous Birmingham gunmaker who allegedly made the gun that was used by Doc Holliday in the famous "GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORRAL". The hotel still retains many of it's original features and style of the Victorian era with stained glass windows, wood panelling, decorative floors and very elaborate ceilings, whilst still offering modern day comforts.

Food

The dining room overlooks Cardigan Bay, and the relaxed atmosphere is enhanced by our fine cuisine and excellent choice of wines. Our head chef prepares everything fresh using local produce and the varied menu also offers a selection of vegetarian dishes. After a good meal why not relax in our peaceful lounge or have a drink in our sea view bar or sit outside on warmer evenings and watch the sun setting over the bay, and occasionally catch a glimpse of the dolphins.

Accommodation

All our bedrooms are NON SMOKING and are individually decorated and furnished with most having unbelievable sea views, en-suite, tea and coffee facilities, hair dryers, teletext TV's and DVD players.
