Things You'll Love

Today the Castle lives at peace with its turbulent history but preserves the atmosphere of its ancient customs.

Nowadays, The Castle of Brecon is a coaching inn of great charm and character. Adjoining the medieval Great Hall and Tower of Brecon Castle, this classical Georgian building also incorporates part of the original Norman castle. The Inn occupies a commanding presence on top of its own hill in the centre of historic Brecon town yet thanks to its quiet location, extensive grounds, riverside gardens and beautiful mountain views it retains the look and feel of a country house hotel.

Location

Located at the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park and with stunning mountain views, The Castle of Brecon Hotel is the ideal base for exploring a region rich in natural history and ancient ruins. This is the land of mountains, lakes, dragons, Celtic hill-forts and ruined castles. The monastic foundation of Llanthony Priory, Roman Caerleon, the book capital of Hay on Wye, the Dan-yr-Ogof caves, the majestic Black Mountains. All this and much more can be discovered within easy driving distance of Brecon.

Owner's Description

Originally built by Bernard de Neufmarche, the brother of William the Conqueror, Brecon Castle is steeped in the drama and romance of Welsh history and it has been welcoming travelers to the town since 1092.

The hotel has been family-run since March 2007 and in that short time it has quickly acquired a reputation for the warmth of its hospitality and the excellence of its locally-sourced food and drink.

We have 43 double or twin bedrooms providing a variety of different types of accommodation to suit all budgets, including several Family Rooms & one Disabled Access room. Twelve of these rooms are located in a separate Annex building (in the former castle stables) whilst the remaining rooms are in the main hotel building.

All Superior and Beacons View bedrooms in the main hotel are individually decorated and most of them offer large double or twin beds, LCD TVs, colour TV, WiFi & broadband, wake-up and tea & coffee making facilities.

Things You Need To Know

We are working hard to make sure our building is accessible for all our guests. We're constantly improving accessibility and will be making large-print menus available soon.

We have recently upgraded the disabled access toilets and we have built a new ramped brick path to allow wheelchair access from the building to the gardens and the castle. The hotel's restaurant, pub and meeting rooms are all easily accessible by wheelchair from the car park. We currently have two ground floor double or twin bedrooms, one of which has facilities for wheelchair users.
