Owner's Description

The School House at Edgerston lies in the heart of the historic Scottish Borders. Built in 1845 by the owners of the Edgerston Estate the single room school and accommodation for the school master or school mistress served the local community until 1945.

This listed historic structure has now been carefully modified and tastefully furnished to enhance the period features of the building. A very high standard of comfortable and friendly accommodation has been created for up to four people for which we have been awarded the highest grading of five stars from VisitScotland.

In 2005 we were the winner of the Scottish Thistle Award for Customer Care (B&Bs and Guest Houses) and in 2004 we were one of the three finalists for this award.

Each room has a unique theme and has been furnished with antique and period furnishings. The bed room on the ground floor has a double bed and an en-suite shower room. The bed room on the first floor has twin beds and a private bathroom. The guest lounge has an open fire, TV, video, library, maps and touring information. Smoking is now only permitted outside and suitable facilities are provided for guests.

Breakfasts are served in our farm house style kitchen and for those taking dinner there is our romantic minstrel gallery dining room. Guests are offered a superb range of traditional Scottish cuisine such as local Venison, Salmon or Border lamb. Our Restricted Hotel Licence enables our guests to select from our range of wines, beers and spirits. Catering for any special diet is also available by prior arrangement.

There is ample parking in the gated driveway for even the most cherished of vehicles. Daytime "security" is optional! Secure & covered parking for motorcycles, bicycles and open-topped cars is available in our garage.

DIRECTIONS TO THE SCHOOL HOUSE B&B FROM JEDBURGH & THE NORTH:
The most direct route from Edinburgh to Jedburgh is the A68 - a distance of some 50 miles. At Jedburgh head south from the town on the A68 towards the Scottish/English Border, Corbridge and Newcastle. Some 5.5 miles south of Jedburgh is the small village of Camptown (see Map No.1). Here the road starts a sharp climb through some established woodland.

As you clear these woodlands the road straightens and you will see ahead of you on the right the Edgerston Manse. This is a grey stone building with work sheds behind (see Map No.2).

As you pass the entrance to the Manse start indicating for a right turn as the driveway to the School House is only some 50 yards after the next right hand bend. As you approach this bend you will see on the right the Edgerston Church.

The School House is next door. Our black and gold sign and a white flag pole at the end of the stonewall mark the entrance to our driveway, which is shared by Chapel Cottage and the village hall. Our sign is illuminated at night.
