Places to visit while staying at a Bed and Breakfast in Suffolk.
Welcome to Suffolk. Situated on the east cost of England where you can enjoy sun, sea
and beautiful countryside. With over 50 miles of coastline facing the North Sea and a
fantastic range of destinations, it's hard to know where to choose. The history of Suffolk
is a long one, as part of East Anglia which got its name from the Angles who used to live
there. Suffolk is quite centralised, its border being around 50 miles from London..
There are many crowd pulling events held every year such as, The Suffolk show which is
always a hit as well as the annual Lowestoft Air Show. A free event at the sea front at
Lowestoft, the most easterly town in Britain.
My favourite town is Southwold. Home to the rich and famous, there is good reason why
this is a popular tourist destination for celebrities and tourists alike.
Despite the huge popularity of this sea-side town Southwold and the surrounding
countryside remains virtually unspoilt. Southwold is home to a quirky variety of shops and
restaurants. There is something for everyone from designer clothes shops to an organic
food delicatessen.
There are an abundance of other chic and attractive towns littered around the luscious
Suffolk countryside. Not far from Southwold is the elegant yet modern Beccles. Another
fairly small town, with a lot to offer. It has the usual highstreet shops but with some
surprises such as a delightful trinket shop, Parish Lantern. Across the road is Twyfords
which does the most fantastic hot chocolate topped with cream and a flake.
A nice contrast to these two towns is bright, urban, fast paced Ipswich. Great for keen
shoppers it has everything you could possibly need. It is a large town with an even larger
history.
Bury St Edmunds also has an interesting history. The exciting town got its name from
when the Danes killed Edmund, King of East Anglia and his body was buried at Bury, which
changed to Bury St Edmunds and a monastery was erected in his honour.
There are many attractions in Suffolk. The wildlife park at Kessingland Africa
Alive also runs another animal attraction, Banham Zoo. There is a large theme park
Pleasurewood hills at Lowsetoft, complete with thrill rides but also with children's rides
for the younger ones, There is also an RSPB nature reserve Minsmere. And historic burial
ground Sutton Hoo. One of my favourite tourist attractions will always be the mere at
Thorpeness, where you can hire a boat and row around the stunning mere and feed the
ducks.
