Hastings is a place famous for its Medieval Battle which actually took place on Senlec
Hill. This is a great place to visit with a range of attractions from its Norman castle
to a miniature railway. It has family amusements and fairground rides as well as the
Victorian Pier, and lots of fishing related shops and restaurants due to the fact that
Hastings still has the largest beach based fishing fleet in the UK. Further along the
coast is quiet Eastbourne which has some of the best beaches and sunshine in the UK as
well as brilliant floral displays and the Carpet Gardens.
Brighton is the most busy and trendy city in Sussex providing plenty of opportunity for
entertainment with its great number of bars, pubs and restaurants as well as a number of
nightclubs and the Pavilion. You will be assured a wonderful time exploring its many
little shops and boutiques as well as the lively atmosphere of the central town. Brighton
is a large place with many attractions including the Fishing Museum, the Mechanical
Memories Museum, the Aquarium and Sea Life Centre. Some of the best places to eat in
Brighton include Al Fornos, Bardleys Fish and Chip Shop, Café Rouge, Mad Hatter
Café, the new Stein Bistro, or Al Duomo's.
The world famous Bognor Regis (the best place in the county), is a family resort and
the home of Butlins which is just jam packed with stuff to do and kids love it. The beach
however, is the main attraction, jet skiing and sailing are activities which are available
in the summer along with beautiful walks towards the west of Bognor in the Bay Estate and
Pagham Lagoon. The annual birdman is a great entertainment and not to be missed, where
grown men jump off the pier fully dressed in unique costumes and contraptions, usually on
the 9th of September.
Other places that are exciting to visit in Sussex include Arundel Castle and Cathedral,
the museum at Amberly, Chichester Harbour and Festival Theatre, Highdown Hill near
Worthing which contains gardens, Littlehampton Marina, Littlehampton Swimming and Sports
Centre and the Oyster Pond Boat Lake. Some of the best places to eat in the county include
The Roundstone Pub near Worthing, The Walnut Tree on Vinetrough Road near Runcton and the
Oyster Catcher on the road between Bognor Regis and Littlehampton.
The railway connects all of the South Coast towns in almost a straight line going from
East to West. From London Victoria there are trains every hour to Brighton in East Sussex
and Barnham and Bognor Regis in West Sussex. The following towns have tourist information
centres: Worthing, Arundel, Bognor Regis, Brighton, Chichester, Crawley, Eastbourne,
Hastings, Midhurst and Littlehampton.
